To encourage research and prevent duplication of concepts,Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) has filed patent applications for 27 student projects. Of the 450 projects submitted by the students of polytechnics and industrial training institutes across the state,49 were shortlisted.
In March,MSBTE had organised a competition across Mumbai,Pune,Aurangabad and Nagpur. While the winner who came first bagged Rs 75,000,the runner up was awarded Rs 41,000.
A panel comprising board officials,a lawyer and four industry experts, identified 49 projects for the patenting. We had contacted colleges under MSBTE to send us the best among the student projects. The eco-friendliness of the project and cost of manufacture were kept in mind. We have filed patents for 27 projects as other colleges are yet to send in their applications, said P M Khodke, director of MSBTE. The board will bear the cost of patenting and marketing the projects.
