In an attempt to manage overcrowding of commuters in monorail stations and their premises during peak hours, operators of the monorail,Scomi, has started working a crowd management plan.
Suhaimi Yacoob, country president of Scomi, said there would a three-tier security system to control crowd at the stations. As per the plan, the concourse and ticketing areas will be set up at the entrance of all stations,Yacoob said.
Station managers will also play an important role in crowd management. As per the plan,if the platform area is heavily crowded and is not able to take any more load, more commuters will not be allowed enter the station area and they will be made to wait in the ticketing and concourse area.
We would stop issuing the tickets to the commuters or restrict their entry to the station area and the concourse area, said a Scomi official.
It seems to be an effective plan. Unlike the Metro and suburban railway stations,we have little space available. So we cannot allow more commuters on the platforms, concourse and ticketing area. This will avert untoward incidents like stampede and overcrowding of the stations, said the official. Plus, the frequency of monorail cars would be good enough to avoid crowing of the stations. Necessary infrastructure arrangements will be made at three levels to avoid crowding of the stations. Main control room that will be set up at Wadala and control rooms at all the stations will monitor the passengers.
