MNS flays govt over absence of Marathi signage at Lok Sabha secretariat event held in Mumbai

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has attacked the government over the absence of Marathi signage at an event organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat to mark 75 years of the Estimates Committees of Parliament and State Legislature. The event held in Mumbai featured banners in Hindi and English—but none in Marathi.
“This is Maharashtra. The event may be national, but the venue is Mumbai. How can Marathi be missing from the main stage? If we don’t uphold our language, who will?” MNS Mumbai chief Sandeep Deshpande said.
He accused the state government of lacking resolve to protect regional identity and referenced former finance minister C D Deshmukh’s resignation from the Nehru cabinet during the Samyukta Maharashtra movement.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde clarified that the programme was organised by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, which decided the language used on banners. “If the state government had hosted it, Marathi would have been included,” Shinde said.
