MNS activists booked for slapping society guard for not speaking Marathi
On Sunday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray urged his party members not to refrain from “slapping” people if they refuse to speak Marathi

Mumbai’s Powai police booked three members of the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and a grocery app delivery boy on Tuesday for allegedly slapping a 40-year-old security guard of a Powai residential society for not speaking in Marathi.
The society guard, Bhavaniprasad Jha from Dabhanga in Bihar, who has been employed with Stealth Management Solutions Private Limited for four years, was posted as a security guard at L&T Emerald Housing Society in Powai.
On Monday at around 8:30pm, a grocery delivery company’s delivery boy, Ajinkya, arrived at the society to deliver a parcel to a resident. As per the FIR, Jha asked Ajinkya in Hindi which flat he needed to deliver the parcel to. Ajinkya mentioned the flat number and Jha made the entry in the register. But this angered the delivery boy, as he didn’t like Jha enquiring with him.
After dropping off the parcel, Ajinkya, while leaving, abused Jha without looking at him. When Jha confronted him, Ajinkya started recording Jha’s video and told him to speak in Marathi. Ajinkya kept on asking him to speak in Marathi. Irritated Jha then told him, “Marathi gayi tel legane, tum gali kyu dete hai?” (To hell with Marathi; why did you abuse me?)”
Ajinkya threatened Jha and left, only to return at 9.30pm with three others, the FIR stated.
Jha was confronted by Ajinkya, and three others — Vijay Nikam, Sanjay Mule and Mahesh Giram in the presence of Jha’s supervisor. One of them introduced himself as an MNS party activist and asked Jha why he didn’t speak Marathi and why he said “Marathi tel lene gaya”. The man then slapped Jha two to three times while his associates abused Jha. They also forced Jha to apologise, the police complaint stated.
Later, the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
On Sunday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray urged his party members not to refrain from “slapping” people if they refuse to speak Marathi. He made the statement at a Gudi Padwa rally in Shivaji Park.
On Tuesday Jha lodged a complaint with Powai police. Police have booked the four persons under sections 352 (intentional insult), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (common intention), 126 (wrongful restraint), and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating the matter further.
