MCZMA endorses CRZ clearance for Vadhwan Port development

The proposed project has been opposed by the fishing community and environmentalists over loss of livelihood and impact on ecology largely.

THE MAHARASHTRA Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) recommended a Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance to the Ministry of Environment and Forests         & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for the proposed development of the all-weather deep draft Greenfield Vadhvan Mega       Port in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district.

The recommendation was made during the authority’s 172nd meeting held on February 6, 2023. Unmesh Sharad Wagh (IRS), chairman in-charge of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), confirmed the decision through an official press release. Wagh also assured that JNPA will adhere to all the conditions outlined in the CRZ recommendation.

JNPA intends to undertake this project in collaboration with the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). JNPA also informed that the Dahanu Taluka Environment Protection Authority has already granted permission for the port’s development.
