Manoj Saunik appointed Maharashtra’s Chief Secretary

Additional Chief Secretary Manoj Saunik has been appointed as Maharashtra’s new Chief Secretary. The 1987-batch IAS officer will replace outgoing Chief Secretary Manukumar Srivastava, who retires on April 30.

“Manoj Saunik has been appointed as new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra,” an order issued by the government said.

As Chief Secretary, Saunik will have an eight-month tenure as he will retire in December 2023.
In another decision, Srivastava was appointed as the new state chief commissioner (right to guarantee of services). He will take charge on May 1. The tenure will be of five years or up to 65 years.

Saunik, who hails from Bihar, has served as Collector of Nashik and Dhule earlier.

Apart from him, others in the race for the chief secretary’s post were Sujata Saunik and Nitin Kareer, both additional chief secretaries.

Sujata Saunik, who is Manoj Saunik’s wife, still has two years to retire. She will retire in mid-2025. She is additional chief secretary in-charge of general administration. Kareer, who will retire in March 2024, currently is posted as additional chief secretary, revenue department.
