Former Mumbai cricketers were ruled out after having completed eight years in MCA committee

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has finally picked their members for the Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) which will be chaired by former India wicket-keeper Chandrakant Pandit a month after the MCA elections took place. Interestingly just two days after the managing committee decided to form a new panel,MCA on Tuesday decided not to continue services of three former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar,Sanjay Patil and Milind Rege in CIC_reason being they all have completed eight years as CIC members.

MCA joint-secretary Nitin Dalal informed that Pandit will be CIC chief and soon they will look over all appointments of various coaches, physio and other cricketing related matters. “The managing committee wanted to talk to Dilip Vengsarkar once again but he has expressed his reservation about chairing CIC. So MCA has appointed Pandit as CIC chairman. As per the constitution no one can work for more than eight years at a stretch in MCA so that is why these three cricketers have been left out,” Dalal said.

However,MCA is not planning to rope in any replacements since CIC already boasts of nine office bearers.

Pandit will have for company former India opener Lalchand Rajput,Balwinder Singh Sandhu,Mayank Khandwala,Deepak Patil and Amol Muzumdar (depending on his availability) along with MCA office-bearers.

The first priority for CIC will be finding a right replacement for coach Praveen Amre, who decided to quit last season. Thanks to the delay in appointing committees, the CIC might find it tough to look out for right candidates, even while other state associations have kicked off their off-season campaigns already. The MCA is yet to announce its Ranji probables’ list though Mumbai begins its domestic season after two months. Meanwhile, the MCA office is busy filing quotas by allowing more members to join MCA sub-committee. Probably for the first time,70 members are included in the cricket committee and chances are more will be added in the near future.

The managing committee on Saturday cleared all committee members, but newly elected president Vilasrao Deshmukh had later requested to allow more people to join in.

“MCA was supposed to release the list of committees but we are still accommodating various people in sub-committees. It’s the president’s request,so we can’t do much,” a source said. The other important sub-committees like Kanga League committee will be headed by Vinod Deshpande, umpires committee Arvind Kadam, maidan committee Nadeem Memon and tournament committee Dawood Patel.
