Mumbai police arrested one person for allegedly stealing jewellery and valuables worth Rs 72 lakh from a jewellery shop in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.
Mumbai police arrested the accused from outside Borivali railway station while he was attempting to head back to his village in Rajasthan and handed over to Mahape police where the incident took place.
An official from Kasturba Marg police said that they had received a tip off that a person identified as Karansingh Kharwar had burgled a jewellery shop at Mahape in Navi Mumbai was going to reach Borivali railway station to go to his village.
The police team cross checked this information with Navi Mumbai police which confirmed that a shop had been looted in Mahape and they were looking for the accused. The police team then laid a trap and arrested Kharwar. On checking his bag, the police team found cash and valuables worth approximately Rs 72 lakh.
The officer said that the accused was handed over to the Mahape police where the FIR has been registered and they will be carrying out further probe in the matter.
