A 22-year-old man was arrested in Mumbai on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl on June 7. According to police, the accused, who works in a store, lives in the same area where the child lives with her family. On June 7 afternoon, when the girl visited the store to buy something, the accused took her inside the store and allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, police said. Later the girl told her mother about pain in her private parts. “On Sunday, when the mother and child were passing by the store where the accused worked, the girl told her mother about what the man working there did to her,” an officer said. The mother then went to the store and confronted the accused, who allegedly admitted to his crime, the officer added. The accused, however, managed to flee after that. The woman, along with her husband, approached the police and filed a complaint. While police were looking for the accused, local residents nabbed him and handed him over to the police. He has been charged under sections 376, 376(3), 376(A), and 376(B) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 6 and 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
