Man runs over blind pedestrian in Bandra killing him, booked

According to the police, on Thursday night Anwar alone was crossing the road near Kherwadi flyover area when he was hit by a vehicle around 11:30 pm.

Kherwadi police have booked a 74-year-old man for allegedly ramming his car into a 46-year-old blind pedestrian, while he was crossing the road in Bandra (East) area on Thursday night. The blind man suffered grievous injuries leading to his death. The senior citizen has been booked on charges of causing death by negligence.

The deceased has been identified as Anwar Khan (46), who lived in Khar (East). He used to earn his livelihood by begging in Gausiya Masjid area.

According to the police, on Thursday night Anwar alone was crossing the road near Kherwadi flyover area when he was hit by a vehicle around 11:30 pm.

He suffered serious injuries on his leg and head. He was immediately rushed to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital in Sion by locals. However, the doctors there declared him dead before admission, the police said.

The Kherwadi police were informed about the incident, who then informed Anwar’s family about this.

On the complaint of Anwar’s brother Sarwar Khan, the police on Friday registered a case against the vehicle’s driver Clairence Phanseka (74).

Phanseka did not flee the spot of the incident. Police have charged him with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for causing death by negligent driving, said a police officer.
