A man, who was protesting against the state government, jumped onto a safety net at the Mantralaya, Maharashtra’s administrative headquarters, on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to police, the man landed onto the safety net of the first floor of the Mantralaya building, around 4 pm. Police personnel evacuated him to safety and was taken to Marine Drive police station.

The safety nets in the main Mantralaya building were set up as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential suicide attempts. To secure Mantralaya premises and tighten security, various measures are being taken including installation of face recognition system.

Last year, the then deputy speaker of Legislative Assembly Narhari Zirwal along with three tribal MLAs, had jumped on the net as a mark of protest against inclusion of Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
