Man injured in clash over game of cricket

A 26-year-old man was injured after he was allegedly attacked by rival team members over a game of cricket in Bhandup around 2.30 pm on Saturday.

A 26-year-old man was injured after he was allegedly attacked by rival team members over a game of cricket in Bhandup around 2.30 pm on Saturday.

The police have identified the accused as Chingya,20 and Avdhoot,21,while six others from their team are absconding.

The victim,Mangesh Keshav Kumar,had gone to play cricket with his friends. Kumar was approached by a gang in between the game. Police officers said that the accused asked Kumar whether he was belonged to the ‘Shendi’ gang. They asked him to leave the ground and also tried to stop their game.

An officer from Bhandup police said that when Kumar refused to leave the ground,he was attacked by the accused and his friends. Kumar’s friends were also injured in the incident. The victims were attacked with swords,stumps and bats.

The injured were admitted to Mulund General Hospital,from where they were discharged after treatment. Kumar got stitches on his head after he was attacked with a sword.

“We have launched a search for the absconding accused in the case. We are also trying to find out if the victim and the accused had any previous rivalry. According to Kumar,the accused did not want him and his friends to play in their area and when they did not listen,the opposition team decided to teach them a lesson.”

A case of assault and rioting has been lodged against the eight accused.
