Man hurt in mishap but to be booked for traffic offences

Meanwhile,car driver Parth Zaveri has been arrested for rash and negligent driving. “We have booked Zaveri for rash and negligent driving. He is a student and claims that he got his driving licence recently. He claims that the axle of his car broke,causing him to lose control over the wheel which led to the collision,” sub-inspector Ajit Wadekar of Marine Drive police said.

The police also confirmed that Mayekar will face charges under the Motor Vehicles Act. “According to the Act,only two persons can ride on a two-wheeler and there were four in this case. Also,it is mandatory for the person riding the bike to wear a helmet,which was also violated. Hence,after Mayekar is discharged,we will book him for the above offences,” said senior police inspector ZM Gharal.

On Friday night,Mayekar was riding a Honda Activa,with Manasvi (4) seated in the front while Nikita was riding pillion with Aradhna in her arms. They had gone out for a ride after having dinner at their Kumbharwada home around 10 pm. The car hit them from behind near Jawahar Bal Bhavan.

“We always take a small ride after having dinner as the children pester father to take them on the two-wheeler. Father always rides slowly,cautious not to exceed even a speed of 30 as he was careful about the children. We always ride towards the inner side of the road and were doing the same last night. However,I heard the sounds of screeching tyres and was about to warn father about a car coming from behind,” said Nikita who suffered injuries on her hands,legs and back due to the impact.

“We were all thrown off the Activa,but father suffered the most number of injuries. He hit his head,broke his nose,some front teeth and also injured his eye. The glass shards embedded in his face are yet to be removed. Both the children suffered deep bruises and also had their skin peel off from their limbs. A huge chunk of flesh was torn away from Aradhna’s feet.”

People sitting at Marine Drive had summoned an ambulance to take the injured to the hospital and had also nabbed Zaveri,who was trying to flee.

Meanwhile in another incident at Oshiwara,two police personnel on a beat marshall were hit by a speeding car early on Saturday morning. They are in the hospital and said to be out of danger.
