A 28-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly making a hoax call to the Government Railway Police at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus station.
Police said the accused, identified as Sachin Shinde, called around 6.30 pm on Friday. Identifying himself as Pawan Kumar, he claimed that he is going to place an RDX at the CSMT station in 10 minutes.
According to the police, Shinde was arrested for the second time for making a hoax call to the authorities as he was arrested early this year for making a hoax call to Sangli police.
“After the call on Friday, two teams were appointed to locate him while sniffer dogs and bomb squads were called to conduct searches at the station,” said an officer. However, as nothing suspicious was found, the police realised that it was a hoax call, following which he was traced to south Mumbai and subsequently taken into custody.
“We have found no specific reason for Shinde to make such hoax calls. He has earlier worked as a coolie and has a history in mobile thefts,” an officer added.
