Neeraj was crushed under the rear wheels, police said. (Representational) An unidentified driver of a trailer truck has been booked for causing death by negligence in a hit-and-run case after the vehicle hit a motorcycle and he escaped without helping the rider get medical treatment.
According to police, Neeraj Gupta, who lived in Malad and worked as technician for a cellular service provider company, was returning home from work on his two-wheeler on Sunday morning when the trailer truck hit his motorcyle on the JVLR Road in Andheri (East). Neeraj was crushed under the rear wheels, police said.
The trailer truck driver, however, left the vehicle and escaped without helping the injured person. “A crane and fire brigade personnel had to be called to take out the injured person who was stuck under the rear wheels of the trailer,” said a police officer. He was rushed to the Jogeshwari Trauma Center where doctors declared him dead, the officer added.
A case was registered at the Aarey sub police station against the unidentified driver of the trailer truck under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act, on a complaint by Dheeraj Gupta, brother of the deceased.
