A 46-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a man and his two friends for refusing to get his elder daughter married to one of the assailants in Titwala area of Thane district on Monday. The accused trio is wanted by the police.
Zakir Mia was attacked by the accused, who was known to Mia’s elder daughter and wanted to marry her. Mia, however, had opposed their relationship multiple times in the past owing to different faith issues, the police said.
On Eid, when Mia was alone at home and the rest of his family had gone to Haji Ali for Eid celebrations, the three assailants entered Mia’s house.
His daughter’s friend again asked Mia for approval of their marriage, but as Mia again refused, the man along with his two friends opened a brutal attack on him using sticks, the police said.
Mia was first rushed by his neighbours to Central hospital in Ulhasnagar and later was referred to Chhatrapati Shivaji hospital, Kalwa, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Kalyan Taluka police have registered a murder case and are further looking for the accused. Some suspects have been detained for questioning.
