The tussle between the ruling Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) over the guardian ministership of Raigad district does not look to be de-escalating anytime soon. On Wednesday, three Sena MLAs from Raigad attempted to meet Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar but were unsuccessful.

Pawar was reportedly unavailable due to prior commitments, but sources suggest he deliberately avoided the meeting. Despite the setback, the MLAs maintained that Shiv Sena would not relinquish its claim to the post.

Maharashtra ministers Bharat Gogawale (Mahad), Mahendra Thorve (Karjat), and Mahendra Dalvi (Alibaug) had sought a meeting with Pawar to resolve the issue and reaffirm their demand for the Raigad guardian ministership.

The controversy began two weeks ago when NCP minister Aditi Tatkare was appointed as Raigad’s guardian minister. However, following opposition from the Eknath Shinde-led Sena, the decision was put on hold—along with the appointment of BJP’s Girish Mahajan as Nashik’s guardian minister.

Speaking on the matter, Thorve said, “We wanted to discuss the ongoing issue with Pawar, but we couldn’t meet him. We are not concerned about our political careers; our priority is to ensure that Shiv Sena retains the guardian ministership of Raigad.”

Meanwhile, in the past two days, second-rung leaders from both Sena and NCP have been trading barbs, further fueling tensions over the issue.
