On October 22, a statewise review had shown 424 tankers operating in drought-hit talukas. A week later, the number has marginally increased to 489.
While the government has declared drought in 151 talukas across Maharashtra, only 489 water tankers have been pressed into service across the state. The tankers have been deployed in 437 villages and 755 wadis (hamlets).
Of the 489 tankers, while 394 are from private entiries, 95 have been supplied by the government. The highest number of tankers have been deployed in Aurangabad region (270), followed by Nashik region (178).

“The water levels in dams would help cope with the drinking water requirements. But the situation is likely to become grave post winter, between mid-February and June,” said an official in relief and rehabilitation department.
On Thursday, 3,266 dams had 59.42 per cent of water. The figure was 76.07 per cent during the same time last year. The water level in Marathwada dams continued to be the lowest. The 965 dams had 1,687 TMC of water (22.87 per cent). It was followed by Nagpur region (35.33 per cent), Amaravati (55.01 per cent), Nashik region (63.55 per cent), Pune region (78.27 per cent) and Konkan (84.43 per cent).
