The Maharashtra State Excise Department has approved 300 party permits for New Year’s Eve celebrations in the suburbs of Mumbai this year, marking a significant increase from 200 permits granted last year. The rise in permits reflects heightened awareness and shows more responsibility, according to officials.

Of the total 300 granted permits so far, 200 are for commercial venues, and 100 are for residential parties.

People wishing to host events can apply for permits through the official website. The fees for a residential party permit is Rs 12,100, with an additional Rs 105 application fee. For commercial permits, the fee is Rs 24,200, with the same Rs 105 application fee. To obtain a permit, applicants must submit required documents online, including their Aadhaar card. Permits are granted once all documentation is validated, ensuring compliance with legal requirements for hosting events.

As per officials, residents often get permission from housing societies for New Year’s parties but this permission doesn’t not include alcohol, but with a party permit from the State Excise, alcohol served without any complaints.

For Mumbai City, the number of party permits is only 19. As per the official numbers, compared to the suburbs the number is very low since there are fewer commercial establishments with smaller areas. The official added that the party permits are issued in 24 hours with validation of documents.
