The proposal according to Maharashtra State Board had led to confusion among aspirants of the upcoming SSC aspirants. In a first such initiative, Maharashtra’s State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has developed a more compact and simplified course for students who have failed in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams of Maharashtra Education Board which declared results recently.
The idea is to help failed students prepare again for their respective board exams in two months’ time – June and July, to appear for re-exam scheduled in August. There will be a dedicated course for each of the classes which is essentially from their respective overall syllabus. The aim is to create a compact structure with emphasis on important concepts and simpler methods of learning them.
The SCERT issued a circular regarding it, which states, “The move intends to help failed students to pass the re-exam, so that they don’t drop out of education or face any negativity of depression due to the failure.”
As per the circular which acknowledges that the two exams witness a considerable failure, it is the respective schools and junior colleges that should take up responsibility of this remedial teaching, which will help failed students pass the re-exam so they don’t miss out on the academic year.
Teachers of these students will be required to identify specific academic weaknesses of failed students to effectively use the new compact course for them. SCERT will hold online sessions for these teachers.
The Maharashtra State Board declared HSC and SSC results recently, on May 21 and May 27, respectively. In HSC, of the 14,23,970 students who appeared for the exam held between February 21 to March 23; a total of 13,29,684 passed, while 94,286 students failed. Whereas in SSC, of 15,49,326 students who appeared for the exam held from March 1 to 26, as many as 14,84,441 passed the exam, and 64,885 failed.
No, a district–level list will be prepared of schools with failed students, and efforts will start accordingly for remedial teaching. This new compact course will be made available online on the website – http://www.maa.ac.in and teachers will be trained to use it.
