Maharashtra govt gives nod to film on Jyotiba Phule

The year also marks the 125th birth anniversary of Phule, who constituted a “Satyashodhak Sama” to fight against the evils of the caste system, oppression of peasants and for equal rights for women.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday gave approval to the film on social reformer Jyotiba Phule, pending before the state government for the last 12 years. “The film on the life of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule will be the greatest tribute to the great social reformer, who made immense contribution to eradicating untouchability, emancipation of women through education and supporting widow remarriage,” Fadnavis said.

The year also marks the 125th birth anniversary of Phule, who constituted a “Satyashodhak Sama” to fight against the evils of the caste system, oppression of peasants and for equal rights for women.

The Congress-NCP government had taken the decision to make the film on July 24, 2002. The government resolution was issued on March 15, 2003. As per the decision, the Centre, state government and Madhya Pradesh government together were to produce the film.

The film was to be made by National Film Development Corporation (NDFC).
