The Maharashtra government has made e-KYC mandatory for beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. The process has to be completed within two months, according to a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Thursday night.
According to the GR, eligible women must complete their verification and authentication within two months to receive the monthly assistance in their bank accounts. If Aadhaar authentication is not done, the benefits will be withheld and the beneficiaries will have to carry out the e-KYC process compulsorily every year.
The move comes amid reports that the state government has found nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible beneficiaries, including men, who had received the monthly allowance. The scheme has 2.25-2.30 crore women beneficiaries.
Under the scheme started before the 2024 Assembly elections, Rs 1,500 per month is provided to eligible women in the 21-65 age group. After the elections, the state government started scrutinising the list of beneficiaries. In February 2025, around five lakh beneficiaries were removed for being ineligible. Later, 2,289 beneficiaries were removed for being government servants. It was also found that around 14,000 men had reaped the benefits of the scheme.
“An e-KYC facility has been made available on the web portal, ‘ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in’, for all beneficiaries of the scheme. They are requested to complete the e-KYC process in the next two months,” state Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said.
The process is simple and convenient, and to maintain transparency in the scheme and ensure regular benefits to eligible women, everyone should complete it, she said in a post on X. The process will also be useful to avail the benefits of other government schemes in the future as well, Tatkare said.
