Maharashtra CM launches intercity e-Shivneri bus services between Mumbai and Pune
MSRTC received a total of eight e-buses, with six yet to get clearance from the regional transport office (RTO).

On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Monday launched electric Shivneri bus services between Mumbai and Pune. The inaugural ceremony was held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai’s Malabar Hill.
At the event, CM Shinde said: “The state transport corporation is the lifeline of Maharashtra and the government will always support it. In the current competitive environment, it should provide quality and people-oriented services.”
The chief minister also launched the clean and beautiful bus station campaign named after Balasaheb Thackeray.
Meanwhile, as per the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) general manager Shivaji Jagtap, two Shivneri buses made their maiden trips from both cities Monday.
The travel time between the two cities is 3 hours 40 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Commuters have to pay Rs 520 for a one-way ticket. Jagtap said the fare is the same as that charged by diesel-run Shivneri buses. The official added that commuters can buy tickets for the e-buses from the respective depots in the two cities for some more days. Thereafter, the tickets can be bought online as well.
The new e-buses have a passenger-seating capacity of 43, besides seats for the driver and the co-driver. The manufacturer, Olectra Greentech Limited, has claimed that the buses can travel up to 250 kilometres on a single charge.
MSRTC received a total of eight e-buses, with six yet to get clearance from the regional transport office (RTO).
The e-buses have comfortable push-back seats designed for long-distance travel. They feature a modern infotainment system with a TV and Wi-Fi facility. The seats are equipped with USB chargers. There is also a luggage capacity of five cubic metres for passengers. Each vehicle cost Rs 1.6 crore.
