CCTV cameras in exam halls with live streaming to control rooms, invigilators wearing body cameras, and capturing photos of candidates at various stages of admissions — these are among the stringent measures set to be introduced for the upcoming Common Entrance Tests (CET) to professional courses in Maharashtra to ensure “transparency and integrity” in the admission process.

The admissions for various professional courses in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the state including engineering, medical, law and nursing are conducted by the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell. It also conducts over 18 entrance exams for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and facilitates centralised admissions process for all professional courses.

The new stringent security measures, according to sources at the CET Cell, will prevent cheating or any other malpractices at any level and will ensure fair admissions.

“Taking images of the student at different stages will ensure that there are no dummy candidates. At the time of registration for the CET, a student will have to submit an image which has to match with the photo taken at the time of exam. Furthermore, another photo will be taken at the time of registration for the centralised admission process which has to match with previous records and finally at the time of admission. While this is the basic idea, nitty-gritties of this have yet to be finalised,” said an official from the CET Cell.

Apart from matching the images of the candidates, the CET Cell is considering other measures such as ensuring active CCTVs in all exam-halls which can be used for live streaming at a control room and body cameras on invigilators for added security.

“While CCTVs are generally installed in exam halls, it is under consideration if live streaming can be made available at a control room for a stricter vigil. Whereas mounting of body cameras on invigilators will not only help monitor students appearing for CETs, but also evaluate movements of the invigilator,” said an official.
