The Centre has given a nod to the Maharashtra government, to put forth its proposal to the World Bank, for funding the state’s district empowerment plan. The finance and planning department has also given consent to the plan estimated at a Rs 2,112 crore investment. The World Bank will provide Rs 1,478 crore financial aid and the rest will be made available by the state government.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for considering the state district empowerment plan proposal and giving permission for its implementation.
The Maharashtra district empowerment plan entails identifying the potential of each district and investing accordingly, along with a robust mechanism for its development, growth and monitoring. The stated objective is to make every district sustainable through holistic development. It also aims at improving infrastructure and employment opportunities with a focus on the developmental index.
The plan will be centred on expanding financial progress. Using data-based technology, it will invite public investment planning, strengthening revenue mechanisms, institutionalising financial planning, urban and services participation et al.
On Sunday, CM Eknath Shinde and Fadnavis convened a meeting with World Bank delegates. With the Centre’s nod today, the process to procure funds from the World Bank has begun.
