TWO cases of break-ins and a robbery were registered in the city in the past 24 hours. Two unidentified persons allegedly attacked a man carrying 3,500 US dollars and fled with the foreign currency. One break-in was reported from Gamdevi in south Mumbai on Thursday where unidentified persons entered the house of a 28-year-old woman, Divya Siddhpura, who stays on the third floor of Devkar building. She was away from October 14 to 26 for a family function and when she returned on Wednesday, Siddhpura found 72 gm of gold and 17 watches, worth Rs 1.56 lakh in total, missing. The family members approached the local V P Road police where an FIR was registered against unidentified persons. An officer probing the case said: “The accused entered the residence by breaking the lock on the kitchen window. We have some leads in the case and should be able to track down the accused.” The second break-in case was registered in Goregaon on Thursday evening. Unidentified persons broke into one Prakash Aphdekar’s house when he was away for work. The accused allegedly fled with gold jewellery worth Rs 2.15 lakh. Vanrai police have registered an FIR. No arrests have been made yet. On Thursday around 6 pm, Vishnukumar Mali (22), a foreign exchange dealer, was on his way to handover 3,500 US dollars to a customer on his two-wheeler. As Mali, a Santacruz resident, stopped the bike to wait for person, the accused persons allegedly hit him on the head and fled with a bag that had foreign currency in it. An officer said: “We have registered an offence and are looking for the accused. We suspect the accused were tracking Mali and after they found him waiting at an isolated spot, they attacked him.”
