L&T bags contract to construct city’s longest tunnel
The 3.8km-long proposed twin tunnel road will provide connectivity between Orange Gate, Eastern Freeway and Marine Drive on Mumbai’s coastal road. Each tunnel will have 2+2 lanes with one emergency lane.

The executive committee of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved the appointment of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as the contractor for the longest underground tunnel in the city that will connect Orange Gate and Marine Drive.
The bids for the project were opened on July 20 this year. Two contractors — L&T and JKumar — had shown interest in the project. L&T turned out to be the lowest bidder with a quotation of Rs 7,765 crore while JKumar quoted Rs 8,589 crore.

According to an official, a letter of intent will be given to the lowest bidder after which the contractor will begin work .
