The beneficiaries under the CM Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme have increased by 14 lakh since the Assembly elections, Maharashtra’s Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said on Wednesday in Legislative Assembly.

According to officials from the department, the rise in numbers was due to scrutiny of applications being completed. They had been pending due to the model code of conduct during the state Assembly polls.

The Opposition on Wednesday protested and walked out of the Legislative Assembly, alleging that despite promising to provide Rs 2,100 to women under the Chief Minister’s Ladki Bahin Yojana, the government has delayed fulfilling it.

Tatkare informed that the number of beneficiaries under the Scheme increased to 2.47 crore in February as compared to 2.33 crore before the Assembly elections. According to Tatkare’s submission, the number of beneficiaries increased by around 14 lakh.

Replying to queries raised during question hour by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar, Tatkare said that Rs 1,500 was being given to women under the scheme at present. “Also, anganwadi workers get Rs 50 per scheme application that they work on,” she informed.

The Opposition targeted the government as Pawar asked, “When will you give Rs 2,100 as you had promised in the manifesto?” He was joined by Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai.

Tatkare informed that the decision to give Rs 2,100 will be taken by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief ministers. The Opposition protested and shouted slogans, alleging women were being deceived.
