BJP leader Kirit Somaiya Tuesday wrote to Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking an inquiry into and verify the authenticity of a video which allegedly showed the former MP in a “compromising position”. The purported video went viral after a Marathi news channel aired it Monday evening.

In a tweet on Tuesday morning, Somaiya said, “A video clip of me was shown on a news channel. Claimed that I have harassed many women & many such video clips available & complaints received against Me. I have never abused any woman. Request @Dev_Fadnavis to investigate such allegations and verify the authenticity of Videos”.

The purported video evoked sharp reactions from several Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP leaders who slammed Somaiya and claimed there were several such videos and the clip aired on the news channel was just one of them.

Somaiya has been known to be following up on complaints against leaders of Opposition parties and at times, talking about action against them on social media platforms where he is active.
Incidentally, some leaders like NCP’s Hasan Mushrif against whom he had complained in the past joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government in the state after which Somaiya has kept a low profile.
