Further, raising the importance of effectively utilising the staff of BEST, Kedar Hombalkar, BEST committee member said, “Such natural calamities happen at odd hours. We should keep a SOP in place wherein employees who stay closer to the spot of disaster need to report for rescue immediately.” Hombalkar also stressed on the need of implementing earthquake drills in schools and colleges.

“When such a calamity strikes, people still seem unaware about the steps to be taken. Thus, a drill system which is followed in countries like Japan must be carried out in the schools and colleges as well,” he added.
