Jiah Khan suicide: Court rejects Suraj Pancholi’s exemption plea

A Mumbai sessions court Tuesday rejected an application seeking exemption from court appearance filed by Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, accused of abetting his girlfriend and actor Jiah Khan’s suicide.

Sooraj was arrested on June 10 last year for allegedly driving the 25-year-old actor to commit suicide. A letter, purportedly written by Khan, was discovered days after her death and blamed Sooraj of harassment. Khan committed suicide on June 3, 2013 by hanging herself at her house.

The court Tuesday directed Sooraj to be present before it on June 18. While a chargesheet has been filed in the case, the court is yet to begin with the trial. The court is likely to frame charges on June 18. A week back Jiah Khan’s mother had called on the Indian Government to reinvestigate her daughter’s death.
