IPL: security beefed up at DY Patil Stadium

Heavy security arrangements have been made in and around D Y Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai ahead of the semi-final and final Indian Premier League matches,the Mumbai police said on Monday.

The security was beefed up after the two semi-final matches were shifted to Navi Mumbai following the twin blasts outside Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Saturday. Earlier,the two semi-finals matches were to be held on April 21 and 22 in Bangalore. The final match will be held on April 25 at Navi Mumbai stadium.

Talking about the security arrangements for IPL matches,Director General of Police (DGP) A N Roy said,“The spectators will have to come empty handed as bags,mobiles and water bottles will not be allowed inside the stadium due to security reasons.” Roy assured that each and every spectator would be frisked thoroughly before being allowed inside the stadium.

Police sources said that the stadium,with a seating capacity of 60,000 people,would be manned by over 2,000 police personnel and 1,000 private security guards. The stadium will also have over 60 door-frame metal detectors. The State Reserve Force personnel and armed commandos will also be deployed during the event along with policemen in plainclothes. The law enforcement authorities have also installed CCTV cameras at various spots in the stadium to maintain a vigil and to prevent any untoward incident.
