Navi Mumbai cops exploring possibilities of arrests in five cases The Navi Mumbai Police are investigating five cases they said they registered since March 28 against organisers of the IPL matches at the D Y Patil Stadium and are carefully exploring possibilities of making arrests. The cases, they said, were in connection with alleged violation of the loudspeaker deadline and permissible decibel levels. According to the police, three offences pertain to flouting of the 10-pm loudspeaker deadline and two other cases were regarding exceeding of the permissible noise levels during the two semi-finals. We have made out five cases. Two pertain to illegal decibel levels of loudspeakers and firecrackers creating noise pollution at D Y Patil stadium during the two semi-finals on April 21 and 22, said Deputy Commissioner of Police,Ashok Dudhey. Besides, three cases have been registered as the two semi-finals and an earlier match on March 28 at the stadium flouted the 10-pm deadline for use of loudspeakers, said Dudhe. Police have applied sections of the IPC and the Bombay Police Act pertaining to disobedience of a government order, punishment for causing public nuisance, and continuance of nuisance after injunction to discontinue, along with sections of the Environmental Protection Act. Asked whether any specific individual from the IPL had been named in the FIRs,police said,We registered a case against organisers of the IPL and not against a particular person. However,we will carefully explore the possibility of arresting those found guilty of wrongdoing. So far,no arrests have been made, said Dudhe. The IPL had earlier approached the Thane Collector for permission to extend the 10-pm deadline for loudspeakers and permission was granted only for the inaugural match at the stadium on March 12. Police received complaints from local residents that the deadline had been flouted during the subsequent matches.
