Maharashtra: Corporation to aid unorganised workers, OBC and enhancing aide minority students announced

Pilgrim sites, monuments to be developed; memorials to be built

With a focus on social engineering the Maharashtra government in the budget announced creating over a dozen memorials, developing monuments and pilgrimage places as well as a provision of over Rs 500 crore to develop and set up an economic development corporation for the Bara Balutedar(Other Backward Class-OBCs identified by their profession ). It also announced setting up an organisation for the welfare of the state’s unorganised workers.

The Bara Balutedar(OBCs identified by their profession) was a hereditary system of twelve trades or professions in villages of Maharashtra.

The government also announced the formation of Annabhau Sathe Research and Training Institute (ARTI) for the Matang community (Schedule caste) on the lines of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI). An outlay of Rs 18,816 crore has been proposed as scheme expenditure for the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department for 2024-25.

“Unorganised Workers Welfare Corporation has been established to provide various welfare schemes for auto rickshaw, taxi, passenger and commercial vehicle drivers, cleaners, cabmen, Vidi workers, porters, domestic women workers, fishermen, door-to-door newspaper distributors as well as workers in animal husbandry, power looms, handlooms, health sectors etc,” Finance Minister Ajit Pawar announced while presenting the budget.

“Another corporation, Sant Gadgebaba Bara Balutedar Economic Backward Development Corporation, will be established for the overall development of the Bara Balutedar community,” Pawar added.

Thirty two Shivakalin forts will be renovated and conserved to promote tourism in the Konkan region.

To bring minority students into mainstream education, the government has decided to increase the subsidy of the Dr. Zakir Hussain Madrasa Modernization Scheme from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

To implement the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam educational loan and micro credit scheme, the government approved increasing a guarantee amount to Maulana Azad Economic Development Corporation from Rs 30 crore to Rs 500 crore.

The government made an outlay of Rs 5,180 crore as proposed scheme expenditure for the Other Backward Class Bahujan Welfare Department and theMinority Development Department for the year 2024-25.

Special Development Authorities will be set up for the development of pilgrimage sites and local areas of Aundha Nagnath — one among the country’s 12 Jyotirlingas that is located in Hingoli district, Shri Kshetra Mahurgad in Nanded district and Ekvira Devi Temple in Pune district.

Rs 37.28 crore has been approved for the development of Malojiraje Bhosle’s’ Gadhi and Hazrat Chand Shah Valibaba Dargah premises in Indapur city.

The government also announced increasing the subsidy given to Marathi Mandals promoting Marathi language outside Maharashtra. “Adequate funds will be made available for the conservation of buildings, structures and monuments of Marathi Mandals,” Pawar said.

Memorials to be developed: 

1. Rs.66.11 crore approved to develop Shri Sant Jagnade Maharaj memorial at Sudumbare, Taluka Maval, Pune district Pune.

2. Memorial to Sane Guruji at his birth place in Jalgaon district

3. Rs 102.48 crore approved as first phase to develop precinct of Shri Shivram Hari Rajguru’s birthplace in Rajgurunagar.

4. Land to be made available at the base of Pratapgad fort to create a memorial for Jiva Mahala — Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s colleague.

5. Lahuji Vastad Salve memorial at Sangamwadi, Pune.

6. Rs.29.73 crore approved to develop memorial for ‘Rajmata Saibai’ at the base of Rajgad fort.

7. Rs.37.28 crore approved to develop gadhi to Malojiraje Bhosle.

8. Sant Gorobakaka Maharaj memorial at Dharashiv district.

9. Mahatma Phule Wada and Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule memorials in Pune.

10. Rs 270 crore to develop Swarajrakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj monument.

11. Rs 20 crore proposed to organise various programmes on the occasion of the birth tricentenary of Ahilya Devi Holkar. An outlay of Rs 53 crore was proposed for the preservation and conservation scheme of ‘Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar’ temples and step wells.
