All infra projects in Maharashtra to have unique ID: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minsiter Devendra Fadnavis. (File Photo)Every infrastructure project in Maharashtra will now have a unique identification (UID) marker, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Thursday, adding that this will help streamline the system and bring about transparency.
“Several departments are working on the same projects in the same location…duplication of work leads to massive expenditure and losses. Like the Aadhaar card helped weed out bogus beneficiaries, similarly UI for basic amenities and infrastructure projects will help to streamline the system and stop several agencies from attempting the same work repeatedly,” Fadnavis said.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
“The purpose of introducing UID projects is to bring greater transparency, flawless mechanism and financial discipline,” he added.
The unique ID will help in better planning and help get rid of ad-hoc decisions, the chief minister said. “An integrated approach to a project will help avert duplication and excess expenses. It will help restore balanced development,” Fadnavis added.
Whenever a project is taken up, all details, along with the work timeline, will be uploaded on the PM Gatishakti portal, Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre etc.
A committee will be constituted to work out the details, Fadnavis said. The committee will comprise Rajgopal Deora, additional chief secretary, and Saurabh Vijay, principal secretary, from the planning department; Eknath Davle, principal secretary, rural development department; and Pravin Gedam, divisional commissioner, Nashik. The committee will submit its report to the chief minister.
Similarly, all social development corporations in Maharashtra will be brought under one IT platform. The move is a bid to integrate all schemes undertaken through multiple corporations and development boards, and once implemented, all social organisations will have access to welfare schemes under one common platform.
A four-member committee has been set up to enforce this project. It comprises Aseem Gupta, additional chief secretary, urban development department; Vikas Rastogi, principal secretary, higher education department; Vijay Waghmare, secretary, rural development department; and Chandrakant Pulkundwar, divisional commissioner, Pune.
The cabinet also approved an ‘E-cabinet’ proposal that aims to make the functioning of the Cabinet paperless with the cabinet agenda and proposals being uploaded on tablets.
