Indian on way back home after 6-yr jail term in Spain

Mumbai resident Roshan Jamal Khan, who was convicted and jailed in Spain for six years on charges of belonging to a terrorist group, is on his way home to his family in Jogeshwari after having completed his sentence on January 16.
In December 2009, Khan was convicted along with 10 Pakistani men by an anti-terrorism court in Spain of “belonging to a terrorist group” that planned to bomb the Barcelona Metro. Khan, who had already been in Spanish prisons for close to two years, was sentenced to jail for eight-and-a-half years. However, in December 2010, the country’s Supreme Court dropped the terror charges and reduced his sentence to six years.
Khan is one of 14 Muslim men picked up by Spanish authorities from a mosque in Barcelona on January 19, 2008, in connection with an alleged plot to carry out attacks in that city. Four of them, including another Indian,were released later, while another suspect was detained in The Netherlands subsequently. Khan, being held along with nine Pakistanis, was in Spain to explore business opportunities, his family said.
“My brother has been taken to a deportation centre in Madrid from the prison near Leon. He is expected to return to Mumbai in the next few days. His family — wife, four sons and two daughters — are eagerly waiting to greet him,” said Khan’s brother Mehboob.
Following Khan’s arrest, Maharashtra ATS and the CBI probed his credentials from his college days till his travel to Spain. Both agencies said they had not found anything incriminatory against him.
