In rescue bid,boy drowns in nullah

One boy died and another was injured after they fell into a nullah on Thursday. While Mohammed Ansari,7,who had jumped in to rescue his friend Sohail Shaikh,8,drowned,Shaikh was rushed to Sion Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The boys are residents of Mankhurd transit camp near the Mandala nullah and an accidental death case has been registered.

Local corporator and Standing Committee member,Shaikh Mohammed, said,“The children,residents of Mankhurd transit camp,had gone to urinate near the nullah as there are no toilet facilities in the transit camps”. Mohammed had raised the issue at last month’s standing committee meet and demanded that a retaining wall be constructed along the nullah. “Shaikh has bruises all over his body but is out of danger,” said Dr Sandhya Kamat,Dean,Sion Hospital.
