Opting for surgery, the medical team faced an additional challenge due to the patient’s history of chain smoking over the past 30 years, resulting in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. This chronic lung ailment obstructs airflow and poses an elevated risk during the surgical procedure. Compounding the complexities, the patient also battled diabetes and hypertension. In a collaborative effort involving consultations with other medical professionals, the surgery was executed successfully, culminating in the removal of a 5 kg tumour from the patient’s ovary.
The doctors who conducted the procedure had specialised training in the newly launched 3-year DNB program. Dr Vidya Thakur, Chief Medical Superintendent overseeing peripheral hospitals, including V.N. Desai, underscores the advancing medical expertise. “Improved capabilities post the initiation of the DNB course enable successful intricate surgeries, marking civic hospitals’ journey in providing medical excellence,” she said.
