Venugopal announced after the meeting that he has invited Thackeray to come to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi and after their meeting, Rahul Gandhi will come to Mumbai to meet the Sena (UBT) chief.

All India Congress committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal met Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Monday at Matoshree in Mumbai. Venugopal said during the meeting, he conveyed the message of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, as well as senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, that Congress was completely in solidarity with Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) in the fight against “anti-democratic forces” of the country and there was need for opposition unity despite diversity in ideologies.
Venugopal announced after the meeting that he has invited Thackeray to come to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi and after their meeting, Rahul Gandhi will come to Mumbai to meet the Sena (UBT) chief.
“I came here to meet Uddhavji and to convey the message of our Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia and Rahul Gandhiji. The message is very clear that in the current political situation in India and Maharashtra, we have witnessed how democracy has been sabotaged by (Narendra) Modi and Amit Shah in Maharashtra and the country and how much Uddhavji is fighting against the anti-democratic forces of this country. After that also, day-by-day, they (BJP) are targeting all opposition parties, especially Shiv Sena (UBT). The Congress party is completely in solidarity with Uddhavji and Shiv Sena in this fight,” said Venugopal.
The Congress leader said all political parties are together in the fight against the BJP.
“The Congress president and Rahulji met Nitish Kumarji, Tejaswi Yadav and Sharad Pawarji recently. The general consensus in the opposition parties is that the entire opposition should fight the dictatorship together. There may be differences between the opposition parties, Shiv Sena has a different ideology, NCP also has its own ideology… all opposition parties have their own ideology. But the country is facing a bigger issue, we have never witnessed this kind of atmosphere in the country. There is a need for entire opposition unity, we have discussed all these issues and we are in agreement that we have to fight against these forces. Therefore, we had a good discussion. We will continue the dialogue. We are together. This is the message we had to give,” said Venugopal.
On the possible visit by Rahul Gandhi to Mumbai to meet Thackeray, Venugopal said,”I requested Uddhavji to come to Delhi and meet Soniaji. When Uddhavji will come to Delhi, Rahulji will also surely come to Mumbai to meet Uddhavji,” “Venugopalji briefed the objective of our meeting very clearly. We have come together to keep democracy alive in the country against the forces that don’t want any other political party in the country,” said Thackeray.
