MUMBAI: The prosecution in the Grover murder case on Tuesday examined a painter,Dheeraj Shukla,who painted accused Maria Susairaj’s flat a day after the murder of Synergy Adlabs creative head Neeraj Grover on May 7,2008. Deposing before Sessions Judge C Jadhav,Shukla said he painted over bloodstains on the bedroom wall and the wall near the bathroom. He also informed the court that he had seen Susairaj’s boyfriend Emile Jerome in the flat. Special public prosecutor R V Kini said,“Shukla was the broker who got Susairaj the flat in Dheeraj Solitaire,Malad. He knew that the patches on the wall were not there when she got the flat.”

Recovery inspector held for graft
MUMBAI: Acting on a tip-off ,the CBI Anti Corruption Bureau arrested Anil Gamre,an officer of the debt recovery tribunal,on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from the complainant for returning his seized property. According to ACB,the debt recovery tribunal had auctioned the flat of the complainant acting on a complaint by the Thane branch of the Bank of Maharashtra. “However,despite making the payment,the panchnama of the flat was not handed over to him by the recovery inspector. When requested to do so,the inspector demanded a bribe of Rs 3000 for the same,” said an officer. Gamre was arrested while accepting the bribe.

Don’t use teachers for non-teaching jobs: HC
MUMBAI: IN a relief for thousands of primary teachers of government schools,Bombay HC on Tuesday said they cannot be forced to do non-teaching jobs. The Division Bench of Justice Ajay Khanwilkar and Justice R M Savant held that under the service rules,government has no power to rope in teachers for non-teaching tasks such as surveys. Maharashtra Rajya Pratahmik Shikshak Sangh had challenged the state government’s 1997 circular,whereby teachers were roped in for survey of Below-Poverty-Line families. The court today set the circular aside. Teachers can be used only for election-related work and census,court said.

No water supply in Goregaon,Dahisar on Thursday
MUMBAI: There will be no water supply on Thursday in the areas between Goregaon and Dahisar as the BMC will undertake repair work on two major pipelines that supply water from Tansa dam. There will be a 24-hour water cut between 11 am on March 25 and 11 am on March 26 in these areas.

The BMC has decided to take up repairs on the two aging pipelines -Tansa East and Tansa West. Officials from the water department had admitted that there are at least three major leakages along the 45 km stretch of pipeline which need to be repaired on an urgentbasis.

MBBS student killed in road mishap
MUMBAI: An MBBS student of Grant Medical College died in a bike accident on JJ flyover on Tuesday evening. The pillion rider,also a student,was admitted to JJ hospital with abrasions. According to Pydhonie police,Shashank Kumar and Nishant Gupta were returning to JJ Hospital’s hostel from CST and were hit by a taxi on the flyover. Kumar succumbed to his injuries minutes after he was rushed to GT Hospital. Gupta survived with minor injuries.

Senior Police Inspector Shamsher Pathan said,“Kumar lost control of his bike and rammed into a taxi coming from the opposite side.”

Kumar’s family who resides in Lucknow has left for Mumbai. The student died of acute trauma and suffered a fracture in his leg.
