IMD extends yellow alert: Mumbai to experience moderate to heavy showers for next 24 hours
The IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded 20 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hour cycle that ended at 8.25 am on Wednesday, while between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm Santacruz recorded 6.3 mm of rain.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) extended the yellow alert for Mumbai till Thursday as it is set to experience moderate to heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours.
On Thursday, the island city and suburban belt of Mumbai woke up to moderate and heavy spells of rain. The rainfall picked up from Wednesday night and sporadic spells of rain continued throughout the day.
The IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded 20 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hour cycle that ended at 8.25 am on Wednesday, while between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm Santacruz recorded 6.3 mm of rain.
Meanwhile, IMD’s coastal observatory at Colaba recorded 55 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hour cycle that ended at 8.25 am on Wednesday and between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm, Colaba recorded 8.2 mm of rain.
Sushma Nair, scientist from IMD Mumbai said that the warning has been extended till Thursday, considering westerlies continue to prevail.
On Thursday Mumbai and its adjoining districts may record moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day and starting Friday, the intensity of rains may recede,” Nair told The Indian Express on Thursday.
After witnessing an early onset of rains, Mumbai recorded a dip in intensity of showers. However, rainfall started to pick up again from early this week. Earlier this year, in its long range forecast, the IMD had forecasted surplus rainfall this year.
