Several parts of Mumbai city and suburbs have been experiencing thunderstorms coupled with spells of intense showers since Thursday afternoon.
However, the heavy showers have not dampened the spirits of devotees who gathered in large numbers for processions in connection with Ganesh idol immersion on the final day of the festivities.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Mumbai under yellow alert for Thursday and Friday in its latest 3 pm bulletin. The city is likely to experience moderate rains coupled with thunder and lightning for the next 24 hours.
Alongside Mumbai, Palghar, Thane and Raigad have also been placed under yellow alert, while an orange alert, indicating heavy to very heavy rains, has been issued in Ratnagiri for Friday.
