Fourth death by suicide from same Goregaon residential complex in 10 months

“Police are planning to visit the society along with experts to counsel the children, especially teenagers, living in the residential complex. We learnt that there are children in the complex suffering from depression and are being treated for the past two to three years. This is a serious issue and all the victims died by suicide. It’s a huge complex,” senior inspector Ravindra Patil of Aarey police station said.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon. The girl was in the bedroom of her house located on the 23rd floor of the highrise in Aarey Colony. The building has 54 floors. The girl was a Class XI student and lived with her parents. Her father is a developer and she was the only child. She was supposed to go to London, where the family has relatives, for further education, a police officer said.

At the time of the incident, her parents were at home but they were in their bedroom and the girl was in her bedroom. Around 3:30 pm, she died by suicide. She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead.

The police conducted an inquest panchnama in the presence of three witnesses and a detailed statement of the girl’s father has been recorded. The police said they came to know that she was allegedly under depression related to her studies for a long time and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Andheri. Earlier too, she had attempted suicide, police said.

The family told the police they did not suspect anyone but the police are investigating the case from all angles. The body was sent for postmortem. The police have registered a case of accident death.
