Golibar slums: Patkar’s hunger strike enters 4th day

Support poured in from various corners as social activist Medha Patkar entered her fourth day of the indefinite hunger strike to protest against the Golibar slum rehabilitation scheme. Former deputy municipal commissioner G R Khairnar,who had handled several largescale demolitions in Mumbai,visited Patkar on Tuesday to show solidarity with her.

“Members of organisations such as Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption,Chemical Mazdoor Sabha,B rihan Mumbai Niwas Abhiyan Samiti,Lok Jagran Manch,Brihanmumbai Nivara Abhiyan Samiti and many others jointed the protests,” said Deven Nair of Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao Andolan. “Anna Hazare has also supported us in the protest and is trying to resolve the issue by taking to the parties involved,” said Nair. Patkar went on a strike following demolitions in Ganeshkripa society to make way for the slum rehabilitation project.
