‘Gender inequality can be reduced by giving equal opportunities’

Students write on the issue of gender inequality, possible solutions and the way forward

Gender inequality is differentiation between people due to gender. Individual can be either of masculine or feminine gender. Since ages there has been perception towards genders depending on their sexes, strengths, capacity and capability to do a certain task. Inequalities are majorly displayed at commercial workplaces and home.

At home, parents are responsible for this. It’s demonstrated in various ways. At workplaces women are paid less, seen as a play material, helpless, depending on male subordinates and being vulnerable to them.

This leads society towards backwardness with orthodox views. Today’s youth can help eradicate this by –

Offering high level education

Social integration

Increasing women employment

Involving them in active politics and social activities

Arranging social protection programmes

Generating awareness among parents

Giving scholarships to girls

Spreading awareness against child abuse and violence

Stopping sex identification and abortions

Social welfare developments by politicians

Promoting NGOs to eradicate Gender Inequality

Helping them become tech-savvy

Gender inequality means to discriminate between a girl and a boy. Girls by birth are given less rights in the society and boys are given unnecessary rights. Today, even educated people are practising gender inequality.

We as youths can try to create awareness among people to stop gender inequality. We can show charts, graphs etc in which girls are doing better than boys.

Girls-women are proving themselves better in each and every arena. Our President is a woman; many of the ministers are women. Some of the women are housewives, but they do their work 24/7 and 365 days without taking any holiday.

As awakened youths of progressing India,we can do our part in following:

Creating awareness for gender equality in our villages, cities, nearby areas, society etc.

Promoting human rights by supporting media events for girl child.

Complaining to police if we witness any sex determination test.

By taking strict action against gender inequality.

I am doing my bit. Are you?

For ages, gender inequality in some form or the other has existed in India and it is the younger generation that faces this problem a lot. If they want to be rescued from this problem they should ensure that their parents knoow about their behavior, whether it’s a girl or a boy.

Secondly, the youth can enter politics and give free education, books, clothes etc to girls. Voluntary social work can be taken up especially in the remote villages to promote awareness about this issue.

Thus, educated youth can educate the families, especially older generations, and create a new beginning for the future generations.

Bharti Dubey, X Raval International School

Gender inequality means that the boy/man is superior to the girl/woman. This bad habit starts when a girl child is born. Parents think that it’s a burden to grow a girl child. The mothers know it is wrong but they are compelled to do so.

In our country there are some places where customs like child marriage, sati, are still prevalent. But no one complains about them,so we should tell the respective families not to do such a shameful thing. To prevent such activities,we should follow laws and regulations and take action against the culprits and give them severe punishment. So that a girl could be freed from the threat of child marriage, sati. To create awareness among people,we as youths should organise meetings and conduct marches. We should give a helping hand to girls as they have to face the whole world in the future .

Pranav Prasad, VII ‘F’ St. Xavier’s English High School and Junior College,Thane (W)

There are commonly two genders in the living beings. Human beings are considered the most intelligent animal and he is practising such a shameful thing.

Gender inequality means that the girl or the woman is inferior to the boy or the man. This malpractice starts from the womb of a mother. By using modern equipments, the gender is detected and if the child is female, the mothers are compelled to abort the foetus. In this 21st century, world is progressing to explore the secrets of the universe, some of our Indian girls are illiterate and they are not given a chance to show their talents. The women have to face the inferiority complex

Now,it is in our hands that we decide to give equal importance to girls and moral support whenever they need. We,the young generation have to give enough guidance to the parents of a girl child to give them education and give the freedom to choose her career and life. By using laws and making youth organisations to abolish gender inequalities,we will be able to eradicate abortion, early marriage etc. Be human by giving equal status to the boys as well as girls.

Vishnu Prasad, IX ‘B’ St.Xaviers English High School and Junior College

Gender inequality is a form of inequality which is distinct from other form of economic and social inequalities. Gender inequality has adverse impact on developmental goals as it reduces the economic growth. It hampers the overall well being because blocking women from participating in social, political and economic activities can adversely affect the whole society. With increase in this gender discrimination,we should come forward and hope for a world free, from the grounds of poverty, unemployment, inequality of gender and exploitation of man by man. A world free of creative challenges and opportunities to conquer them.Youth is a strong force in social movements. Youth can even form a group to stage some corner plays against such social evils. What may not be taught through words can be taught through performance. Education through entertainment is the best way to teach.

Only when we start realising that a girl is also as much a human as a boy, with her own feelings and aspirations,we will be able to end this long standing struggle for the girl child. Why should there be any need for us to make such fuss about her? She is also a human, that is all that we have to remember and that will end all the strife in her life.

But,all this can be done only if youths realise their potential and have in them,an urge and a zeal towards service of the country.

Yashika J Devadiga, VI D. Saraswathi Education Society’s High School,Thane (W).

Gender inequality is a factor which is one of the main reasons for India’s poverty.

Education must be made compulsory for women as it can make her literate and control poverty. Mainly earnings associated with jobs will cause income inequality. The NGOs have the ability to create change & can promote women entrepreneurs.

Youths are the next generation who can distribute articles about equal treatment for girls and boys. Parents should provide equal opportunity for daughters and sons. In our country, socially we think certain work is meant only for girls or only for boys which should not be the case.

Youths can tell their relatives who live in villages to educate their children and tell the same to the members in their locality.

The village people can also take some measures to educate girls and make them independent. Let our country prosper and let it be a developed nation. Jai Hind!

Napoleon was once asked “What the great need of France was?” He answered,“Nations progress is impossible without trained and educated women. If the women of my country are not educated, about half the persons will be ignorant.”

A woman has to play three roles, that of a daughter,a wife and a mother,in her life. An educated lady is a good friend,a clever nurse and a good adviser. The women of our country have proved themselves: Ganga river-making people pure in thoughts and deeds,Indira and Savitribai empowered girls to come forward, etc.

Gender inequality can be reduced by giving equal opportunities. The thought of old generation, that a boy is the only one who can make them proud, should be destroyed from its roots,to encourage woman education,to eradicate the thought that men can only bring our country to the top. It’s now or never

Sakshi. h. Ranka, X/D Saraswati Education Society High School and Jr. College,Thane(W)

The most distracting act in the Indian society is gender inequality. It’s an illegal case to kill girls. In nearly every part of India there are many people who are comitting this crime. In the world,India is in the list of countries of low sex ratio. We can help in the following ways

By stopping illegal abortions in our country, which are also responsible for low sex ratio.

Instead of watching people killing girls,we should stop it and teach the people importance of woman.

By not tolerating any unjust behavior towards her and coming forward and helping her to encourage herself to take action.

The woman herself is responsible for this. Why doesn’t she stand, when she’s forced for abortions on knowing that she will have a baby girl?

She does nothing when her baby is killed in front of her.

Muskan.J. Abedin, 7th,Div Sahyadri(D) St. Xavier’s English High School,Rai master compound ,Ghodbunder Road ,Thane (W)

Sociologically, the word gender refers to the socio-cultural definition of man and woman. Gender inequality in India is witnessed in education, employment and health. All of the above has resulted in a wide gap between the position of men and women in the society

Various social movements which seem to be the basis of progress need the help of the younger generations. For example, for the older generation the idea of women’s subordination to men is appropriate. But the younger generation has vision of the future and is guided by that very vision. Thus,we see social organisations and public uproar in support of ‘save the girl child campaign’ or foundations like ‘Laadli’ who are against injustices imparted to women.

The role of the younger generation is to mould the thinking of the older generation. They will give proper shape and abolish the social evils such as gender inequality that have been out-dated and worn out.

Ruchi S. Machhi, IX Raval International School

The society has evolved now,and so have the thoughts of people. But some things never change, and so do some people. Some people still feel that having a girl child’s a bane. They have the misconception that if they bear a male child their family will gain fame since their next generation wills work for their name. This is such a shallow thought of the orthodox people. One should understand that there is no discrimination between girl and a boy.

By practising female foeticide,we become ruthless murders. We kill the fragile babies who have never seen the world, and have not harmed anyone by any chance. If it is a girl child or a boy it does not matter, what matters is that the child is a blooming blossom, which is being ruined under our foot by us. Why should she be killed? Just because she is a girl.
