With infrastructure projects ramping up across Mumbai, frequent digging activities pose a serious risk to underground gas pipelines, potentially leading to hazardous accidents. To tackle this issue, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has launched a helpline number under its safety initiative, ‘MGL Sahayogi.’
The helpline—1800 2100 2100—encourages residents to report unsafe or unplanned digging in their areas, aiming to prevent accidental damage to pipelines. Such incidents can lead to gas leaks, fire hazards, and disruptions in gas supply to households and CNG stations, compromising public safety.
Speaking at the campaign’s launch, Ashu Shinghal, managing director of MGL, emphasised the importance of public vigilance. “Ensuring safe and uninterrupted gas supply is our top priority. Through the ‘MGL Sahayogi’ safety awareness campaign, we hope this appeal will encourage people to be more vigilant, in the interest of their own safety and the safety of the city they live in,” he said.
According to the MGL, the initiative underscores the need for collective action, urging citizens to stay alert and play an active role in maintaining Mumbai’s safety and infrastructure.
