A Level-2 fire was reported in the upscale Worli locality on Wednesday. The blaze erupted in the basement of Benreez Apartment, located in RG Thadani Marg, at Worli Seaface.
While no casualty was reported, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said six persons were evacuated from the basement. The blaze was reported around 10.39 pm on Tuesday and it was labelled as Level 2 around 10.46 pm.
“It was a minor fire reported in the basement of the building. No casualty was reported and few residents were safely evacuated by the first responders immediately,” Santosh Dhonde, assistant municipal commissioner, told Express on Wednesday.
Soon after the fire broke out, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) had pressed seven fire engines and eight jumbo tankers into operation. Out of the six persons who were evacuated, five were men, while one of them was a woman. The MFB officials said the blaze was confined to 4,000 square feet area in the basement of the ground plus two structure. The officials maintained that the presence of plastic items inside the basement have intensified the flames.
“It was a minor blaze and we are investigating the actual cause of blaze,” said Ravindra Ambulgekar, chief fire officer.
After a two-hour long fire-fighting, the blaze was extinguished around 1 am.
In another incident, a weather shed that was erected between the second and third floors of Bansi Bhavan, a residential building in Khetwadi Girgaon, collapsed Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place around 3 pm and according to BMC’s disaster cell, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials safely rescued all the residents of the building through the staircase. No injury was reported in this incident.
