Industries minister Uday Samant said in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that all hospitals, which are under the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, will soon be audited for fire-safety measures.
“The fire audit of the hospitals, which are under the BMC, has already been conducted. Hospitals which have not been fire-audited yet or those which have some flaws in the fire- safety measures will be asked to upgrade their fire-safety measures and undergo the audit in 90 days,” said Samant in response to questions raised by several MLAs about non-compliance of fire-safety measures and the non-functioning of the fire-fighting system in the BMC-run hospitals.
“In view of the safety of patients, necessary funds will also be made available to implement the fire-fighting system in the hospitals,” said the minister.
Samant also said several complaints have been received about unauthorized construction on Mogra Nala in Andheri (West) ‘K’ Ward and action will be taken after inspecting the illegal constructions.
He issued directions to BMC officials to inspect the area and ensure there is no waterlogging due to the unauthorised construction. Samant also told the House that the government has issued notices to 663 out of the 1,574 hospitals in the state after a fire audit and they have been instructed to respond within 90 days.
