A fire broke out in five coaches of Ashti Ahmednagar DEMU train in Maharashtra at around 3 pm on Monday. As per information provided by Central Railway chief public relation officer, Dr Shivraj Manaspure, the fire erupted when the train was running between Narayandoh and Ahmednagar. The guard side brake van and four adjacent coaches had caught fire.
The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained by railways, for which an inquiry is underway, the PRO said.
Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused by 4.10 pm.
All passengers on board were safely evacuated before the fire spread, an official said. An accident relief train from Daund was sent to the site to help handle the situation.
