FIR lodged after Aamir Khan’s deep fake video surfaces on social media

The police have registered a case against an unidentified person under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. An officer from the Khar police has confirmed the development.

The Khar police in Mumbai on Wednesday filed an FIR in connection with the alleged deep fake video of actor Aamir Khan in which he is seen promoting a political party.

The police have registered a case against an unidentified person under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. An officer from the Khar police has confirmed the development.

Recently, a 27-second video of Khan surfaced on various social media platforms.

In the video he was seen appealing people to not to fall for “jumlas” and indirectly supporting Congress party.

However, Khan’s team members approached police and told them that this was a fake video and lodged a complaint, said a police source.

It is suspected that the video was extracted from the actor’s old television show Satyamev Jayate and the same was edited using some artificial intelligence tool, ahead of the general elections.

The official spokesperson of Aamir Khan stated, “We want to clarify that Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue.”

The matter is reported to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police.

Khan would like to urge all Indians to come out and vote and be an active part of our electoral process, states the statement.

The police are trying to find the culprit is behind the doctored video.
